WSCO St. David's Day
2012
Luncheon, Annual Meeting, and Seminars
Laura Jenkins Gorun and Beth Ransopher, Event Co-chairs
Our ‘first’ celebration of St. David's Day will be
on Saturday, February 25th, and we will return to the Worthington
Hills Country Club at 920 Clubview Blvd. South, Columbus, Ohio 43235. The
club is located West of State Route 315, North of Hard Road. A map and
directions can be found on
page 8.
Lunch will begin with Leek Soup and the entree will be a choice of
Herb Crusted Pork Loin served with au gratin potatoes and haricot verts
(green beans) or Sautéed Chicken Florentine, a chicken breast stuffed
with spinach mousseline, drizzled with au jus, and served with au gratin
potatoes and haricot verts. All meals include assorted rolls and butter,
freshly brewed coffee, tea, iced tea, or lemonade, and fruit cobbler and ice
cream for dessert. Either of these regular adult meal options is available
at $28. A vegetarian option is also available at $25 by request.
Children’s meal -- Chicken Tenders served
with French fries -- available for those age 10 and under, at $8.
A gratuity is included in all meal prices.
Advance registration is required for all meals.
*** Any adult special menu changes will be at the discretion of the chef and
must be made through Laura Jenkins Gorun no later than Monday,
February 20th. ***
Our Annual Meeting will take place between the seminars and lunch.
Please consider becoming a WSCO Board member. Last year, the constitution
was amended to give shorter (3-year) terms to Board members, but with that
comes a need for a few additional people to be elected each year. We will
be voting on Board members and Officers.
Seminar I: "St David: The Historical Record and the
Legends" by Maggie Brooks
A brief, and slightly irreverent, examination of the information about St.
David that is found in historical records and the many legends that surround
the patron saint of Wales. The historical records about St. David are often
at odds with each other and some are suspected of having been politicized by
regional church officials in order to advance their own goals.
Maggie is a WSCO Life member and a former
President of the Board of Directors and is very active with the Granville
Historical Society in Granville, OH, serving on their Board and as
newsletter editor and a docent in the Museum. Maggie gave this presentation
for Granville’s St. David’s Day celebration last year.
