WSCO Annual Picnic     by Charlotte Prior, WSCO vice-president

             BIG TIME CHANGE

Date: Saturday, July 17, 2010

Time: 11:30am to 4pm

Where: Blendon Woods Metro Park, Dogwood Shelter 4265 E. Dublin-Granville Road (Old State Rte. 161) Westerville, OH (map & directions, bottom of  page 12)

Picnic time!! We are trying for a noon picnic so members and friends who live outside the central Ohio area can travel home in daylight.

This is a good time to bring the dish that everyone asks for or to try that special hot dish, salad or dessert you know will be absolutely scrumptious.

You also need to bring table service and beverages along with your dish to share with others.  Colorful tablecloths brighten up those brown picnic tables.

Again, we will eat first (at noon) so hot foods will be hot and cold foods will be cold.

We’ll have an auction again this year right after lunch, while all that good food is settling, and Evan Jones, our Membership Chairman, has agreed to keep things moving as auctioneer.

The format for the auction will be slightly different this year and will feature small groups of related items rather than a plethora of individual things to bid on.  There will be Kitchen, Choral, Children, Christmas, Celtic and Eclectic collections, and bottles of Ty Nant water.

I hope everyone gets up and tries to learn a few simple steps when Donna Boyce and the Welsh folk dancers ask us to join them in a few jigs and reels.

Ann Gillard will direct the CWSS in a few Welsh songs, accompanied by John Davids.  Bring your hymn books so you can join in for the group singing.

We hope Roger Roberts will be able to show his flags again.  They are beautiful and interesting.

The flags and tea towels you bring to share show a bit of history and lots of color.  We display them using duct tape.

2010 Bus Trip – Venedocia Gymanfa Ganu    by Bob Donaldson, WSCO board member

Share the hywl!

Sunday, September 5, 2010 is the date of WSCO’s Venedocia Gymanfa Ganu bus trip.  The event is held at the historic Salem Presbyterian Church in Venedocia, OH, and has long been a favorite of the Central Ohio Welsh and for folks from all over the United States.

Departure will be at noon from the Northwest Boulevard side of Macy’s at the Kingsdale Shopping Center (Columbus, OH) where there is ample free parking.

We will travel to Lima, arriving at approximately 3pm, where we will stop at Bob Evans’ for lunch at your own expense.  Leaving Lima about 4pm, we will drive to the Venedocia Public Park and Cemetery, arriving about 5pm, which will allow time for those who wish to visit the cemetery or to see the Village of Venedocia.

The ladies of Salem Presbyterian Church provide an ample dinner at the church and the cost has historically been $5, but this year’s price is not yet available.  As there are no restaurants in Venedocia, this is where we will have dinner.

The Gymanfa begins at 7pm and ends about 9pm so it is a joy not to have to drive the dark country roads on the way home, but to allow the bus driver to take care of us.

Discounted cost for the round trip bus fare is $35 per person for reservations received prior to July 30th, and $40 thereafter.  Reservations must be received by August 20th.
