Welcome Wagon

I welcomed John Evans in the last newsletter but realized after that issue went to the printer that I had not thoroughly read the membership information that was forwarded to me, so now I get to apologize to the rest of the Evans family at the same time that I welcome them – Croeso (Welcome) Linda and Kelli Evans!

Anne-Marie Rice from Reynoldsburg joined WSCO’s family in July. She sings alto and noted that she is interested in folk dancing.  Maybe we can talk her into joining both groups!  Croeso also to Anne-Marie.

Going to the Chapel

Charlotte and Stanton Prior’s son, Andrew, was married on June 20 to Kimberly Lake.  The stormy, rainy morning cleared to gorgeous weather for the noon ceremony which took place in Put-in-Bay, OH, where Andy and Kim had met when there with separate groups of their own friends.  The Priors rented a house and filled it up with 12 folks for the wedding and 99th birthday celebration for Charlotte’s mother, WSCO member, Lilly Cranston.  In attendance for the family reunion were Charlotte’s brother and sister from Texas and California, respectively, and two cousins from Boston, MA, and Columbia, SC.

Kim followed a tradition of her father’s Finnish heritage – instead of throwing her bridal bouquet, the bride was blindfolded and held her tiara in her hands out in front of her while the single girls and women held hands and circled around her until the music stopped.  The bride then placed the tiara on the head of person in front of her.

Brooke Ellen Morgan and Andrew Farber were married on July 10, 2009, at Rocky Fork Hunt Club.  Brooke is the granddaughter of WSCO founder David Edwin and Ellen Vick Morgan, and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Evan Morgan.  Brooke’s sister, Sarah Morgan was her sister’s Maid of Honor, and Brooke’s other sister, Megan Morgan Janowicz, was her sister’s Matron of Honor.  Brooke’s brother, Will, was an usher and her nephew, Tommy Janowicz, was the reluctant ring bearer.  Best wishes to Brooke and Andy for a long and happy life together!

Maternity Ward

Becky Crownover’s daughter Lisa and hubby Dan welcomed Sarah Morgan Zacharias on August 18th.  They live in Winston-Salem, NC.  Peggy Morgan Speakman said, “I am one happy & proud Great-Grandmother as Lisa is proud to carry on a little of her Welsh heritage by naming her daughter with my family name, Morgan.  Lisa loves and is proud of her Welsh heritage.  She has taken lessons on the Celtic violin and has had Welsh clogging lessons.”  Peggy was in NC at the time of the happy event.

Other Celebrations

Jean Savage was at Otterbein University in June to celebrate her 60th class reunion.

Lilly Cranston, (Charlotte Prior’s mother) celebrated her 99th (!!) birthday on June 26th with a family gathering in Put-in-Bay, OH.

Barbara Clark celebrated her 70th birthday on Saturday, August 1 (actual date was July 17th) with a party at her church.

After 25 years as Executive Assistant to the Dean, College of Social Work, OSU, Ronda Griffith is retiring at the end of September.  She will be substitute teaching in the Vinton County schools beginning in December and will be looking for a position to utilize her BSSW/MSW (social work) degree and state social work license (LSW).  In the meantime, she will also be working with Hamden United Methodist Church and CARE Outreach (Vinton County food pantry and store/clothing/household goods which is through the United Methodist churches in Vinton County).  Evidently, the “retirement” was merely from working at OSU …

In October, Helen Davis will be celebrating her 60th OSU class reunion.

Llongyfarchiadau (congratulations) to each of you!

Sick Bay

When I talked with CWSS accompanist John Davids in August, he was recovering nicely, but slowly, from late-July surgery to repair torn knee cartilage – here’s hoping John is a whole lot closer to 100% by now!

Pam Jones is doing well after going through radiation after a post-breast-cancer-surgery drain was removed.  She is finished with the treatments but, apparently, the radiation keeps on working.  Pam said she is on some serious pain medication for the radiation site and will not be going back to work as a substitute teacher for a few weeks.

Our scheduled 2009 Gymanfa director, Jack Lewis, went through major surgery in August but is doing well.  We wish for Jack a full and speedy recovery and know our Able Gymanfa Chair will sign him up for a future directing gig.

Barbara Clark was recently diagnosed with cancer – please put her on your prayer lists.
