“Opt out” – you hear it from your insurance company, you hear it from your bank, and you hear it from other companies you do business with. WSCO is taking the positive approach – we’re asking if you want to Opt IN.
WSCO members are promised a copy of the annual Member Roster but some of you never use it, or need it only on the rare occasion and then can’t find it, and some may not care if you receive one or not. All of you know you can contact the corresponding secretary by phone or email to get that occasionally-needed bit of information about another WSCO member.
We’re giving you the chance to Opt IN – if you want to receive a copy of the annual Member Roster, let us know.
We can also meet the needs of a number of members by sending the Roster via a .pdf email attachment -- not everyone on our emailing list can open attachments and some access their messages at the public library where there may be a charge for printing, so WSCO does not want to just automatically go that route.
Do you want to receive a copy of the WSCO annual Member Roster? If so, then please Opt IN and let us know your preferred delivery mode:
Via .pdf email attachment? – send an email message to info(at)welshsocietyofcentralohio(dot)org (be sure to note if you wish to not have your email address published in the Roster)
Print copy, as in the past? – send an email message or leave a phone message at (614) 470-4999. (Requested print copies will be available at our St. David’s Day celebration and those not picked up will be sent out by regular mail)
You can get on or off either of the distribution lists at any time by calling WSCO’s Information Line (614) 470-4999 or emailing info(at)welshsocietyofcentralohio(dot)org.
Remember -- Opt IN to receive the Member Roster

Did you know our autumn bus trips first started as part of WSCO’s Welsh Weekends? The pivotal event of the weekend was, of course, our Gymanfa, but WSCO also offered Welsh language lessons for several years and included a potluck supper and Nosen Lawen. A day-trip replaced the language lessons in 2004 and, starting in 2005, the bus trips were scheduled for a Saturday separate from our Sunday Gymanfa so folks wouldn’t be too tired to participate in the hearty singing. The first three years we visited Jackson and Gallia counties, areas steeped in Welsh culture, and the 2007 trip was to Granville and the Welsh Hills. 2008 saw a departure from the Saturday trips so we could attend the Sunday evening Gymanfa in Venedocia.
Have you enjoyed reading Gymanfa Flashbacks? (pages 8 & 9 and above) Can you help us “fill the holes”?
All the tidbits you’ve seen were pulled from our files, but the search continues for information about the early years of WSCO (Columbus Welsh Society, Welsh Singing Society, and Women’s Welsh Club of Columbus), especially the names of all the founding members. We know about Stanley Cherrington, Ada Davis, W. E. Davis, Hayden Edwards, E. I. “Ike” Evans, Hayden Evans, Floe Jones, J. Irvin Jones, David E. Morgan, and Howard I. Powell. Do you know of others?
We would also like to know if anyone has programs for:
gymanfa -- 1st gymanfa, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 38th, 39th through 41st, 44th, 46th, 49th through 51st, 54th, 56th, and 58 th. (We have the Columbus Nationals).
St. David’s Day – any before 1961, 1963-1965, 1969-1989, 1991-1993, 1996, 1997, 1999, and 2001-2007.
Some of our items are not in the best shape (wrinkled, smudged) so if you have a program that is not listed, please offer it to WSCO before throwing it away.
If you’d prefer to not donate items permanently to the “historical file,” would you please consider loaning them to be photocopied?
Contact WSCO’s corresponding secretary: Donna Boyce, (614) 470-4999 or email info(at)welshsocietyofcentralohio(dot)org.
