Since St. David’s Day in March, your WSCO Board has been very busy and is pleased to announce the following updates to meet the goals we determined to work on over the next year.
New Logo –

At the St. David’s Day Annual Meeting and Banquet, the WSCO membership was invited to vote on a new logo to represent the organization. The logo overwhelmingly selected can be seen printed throughout Dragon Tales, and will be used on all WSCO related items, brochures, and on the website. Congratulations to the creative minds of Joe Speakman, Jr. and Mary Ellen Morgan for coming up with the winning logo entry. |
Streamlined E-mail and Website Addresses – As reported in the last Dragon Tales we have updated the e-mail and website addresses to provide a uniform name that is easy to remember. WSCO’s new e-mail address is info(at)welshsocietyofcentralohio(dot)org and the new website address is www.welshsocietyofcentralohio.org. Remember to save these to your favorites!
Mission and Vision – The WSCO Board reviewed the current mission and found that it continues to represent our organization and that no revisions were needed. However, to enhance the mission, the Board voted in April to adopt the following new Vision for WSCO – “Promoting a Strong and Vibrant Welsh Community in Central Ohio”. This short, to-the-point statement best represents the scope of our organization and can be used as a tag line on all WSCO printed media items, such as the website and handouts. We hope that, as you talk with others regarding our organization, you will think of this easy to remember Vision to help us spread the word about all of the good things WSCO does and represents.
Revised and Updated Brochure Completed – As we continue to find ways to improve how we promote WSCO, the Board felt an important piece was to revise and update the organizational brochure. We are proud to announce a new two-sided, 8 ˝ x 11, tri-fold brochure was completed in May and was introduced at the Lancaster Celtic Festival. The new color brochure now includes the Vision and Mission, the history of WSCO, displays the new logo, and explains in detail what our organization is all about including the Welsh Country Dancers and the Columbus Welsh Singing Society, as well as information on how to become a member. Copies of the new brochure will be available at the Family Picnic in July. Anyone needing large quantities of the brochure should contact Beth Ransopher by calling WSCO’s Information Line at (614) 470-4999 or email info(at)welshsocietyofcentralohio(dot)org.
New Display Board – Thank you to the generous donation from Evan and Pam Jones, WSCO now owns a four-paneled, portable tabletop display board. The new display board was christened at the Lancaster Celtic Festival on May 16. Using the board at WSCO sponsored events and at other Welsh-related community events and festivals will assist us in promoting the activities and purpose of the organization. Come see the new display board at the Family Picnic in July!
Other Miscellaneous Upgrades – Now that the new logo has been approved for use, the Board has started to update other miscellaneous paper items, such as creating new letterhead. To make all of our new members feel even more welcome, the Membership Committee is now mailing all new lifetime members a hand written card that displays the new logo and includes their lifetime membership pin. Also being updated, and currently in draft form, is a WSCO Membership Form. Once the form is completed and approved it will be posted on the website and made available with the new brochure at all WSCO functions.
Next Steps – There is still more work to be done. Here are a few ideas that are being considered: creating business cards, looking at promotional items that can be given away at events we visit (pens, pencils, magnets, notepads, stickers, etc), developing fact sheets for distribution explaining Welsh culture, foods, and heritage; and creating different types of apparel with the new logo to make available for sale to WSCO members and at WSCO sponsored events. We are also researching potential Welsh-related events, such as fairs and festivals, where WSCO can conduct outreach activities such as distributing brochures, membership forms, and handouts; setting up the new display board; and displaying the many Welsh-related items the organization has acquired over the years. If you know of any events where it would be beneficial to have WSCO participate please call the WSCO Information Line at (614) 470-4999.
What Can You Do? - We hope you like the changes so far! As WSCO members we need your assistance to help spread the word. Share the new brochure with everyone you know who are of Welsh descent or are interested in Welsh culture. Invite them to the Family Picnic in July and we will have membership forms available, as well as other Welsh related handouts. Remember to share the new Vision “Promoting a Strong and Vibrant Welsh Community in Central Ohio” and help us stay strong as an organization. As always, we invite you to contact any Board member and let us know how we are doing and whether you like the changes that you see.
Editor’s Note: “Part 1” was published in the last newsletter, the February - June 2009 issue.
