Eleven Trinity Exchange Students Arrived in January

After last spring’s successful visit by 10 Welsh exchange students from Trinity College, Carmarthen, Wales, to the University of Rio Grande, Ohio, eleven Theater students signed on to participate this spring term and arrived January 5th.  Many of you remember WSCO’s collaboration with the Madog Center on the production “New Worlds” last year in Granville, Ohio, and will be pleased to learn that the new students, who “sing like angels”, are working on two productions.

Eight of the young people are performing arts students and the other three are in media communications.  As the 2008 students did, these will be participating in Wales Week in NYC activities where they have four performances scheduled, two for each of their productions.

The students will be studying in Ohio until May 11th.  WSCO is, again this year, working with the Madog Center for Welsh Studies to try to bring a performance of at least one of the students’ productions to the Columbus area.  If you are not on WSCO’s email list and would like to be notified if arrangements are made, please contact WSCO’s corresponding secretary at (614) 470-4999 or email info(at)welshsocietyofcentralohio(dot)org.

Rugby!!

The Six Nations games are coming up in February and March.

With a number of Triple Crown successes and shared and outright Championship wins under the players’ belts, Wales has celebrated 10 Grand Slams, the first in 1908 and the most recent in 2008.

Wales wants another Slam.

Are you Welsh rugby fans aware that there are local sports pubs that broadcast the televised games? If you don’t have access via your own, or a friend’s, television, you might want to check for one near you.

There are websites to help keep you up-to-date with your favorite Welsh team/s, and WSCO’s website publishes sports highlights on the “Newyddiadur Cymru / Welsh Newspaper” page (there’s a link for a Jan. 17 article about the high demand for Six Nations tickets in Wales).
