Planned giving provides the next generation with the opportunity to know about their heritage as we do and for us to continue learning about our roots.
As budgets become tighter for all of us, there are numerous ways, through planned giving, that you can make a real difference in the quality and frequency of events sponsored by The Welsh Society of Central Ohio, as well as our continued success.
The Welsh Society of Central Ohio (WSCO), founded in 1948, is a leader in preserving Welsh arts and heritage. Our mission is to foster appreciation of and to preserve Welsh heritage and traditions and to promote the literature, poetry, music, and the arts of Wales for the benefit and education of members of the general public. We are a 501(c)(3) organization and receive no funding from the government, United Way or national arts groups. Planned gifts are an important source of support in building a sound future for the Welsh Society of Central Ohio.
Although bequests are the simplest and most popular form of planned gifts, your gift can consist of almost anything – money, bank accounts, life insurance policies, securities, works of art or real estate. Additionally, you may establish a charitable remainder trust as a way to help maintain Welsh connections and culture.
Suggested language for wills—
This language creates an unrestricted gift, which is especially valued because it is difficult today to anticipate the future needs of The Welsh Society of Central Ohio. If you have a particular use in mind for your gift, The Welsh Society of Central Ohio welcomes the opportunity to work with you and your attorney on specific language to assure your gift will be used as you intend. If you would like to remember The Welsh Society of Central Ohio in your will, you can do so by using the following language:
I hereby give, devise and bequeath unto The Welsh Society of Central Ohio, P.O. Box 12023, Columbus, Ohio 43212, a non profit corporation, (the sum of $______) or (______% of my estate) or (the following stock and bonds ______) or (specific items of property) or (the rest, residue and remainder of my estate). This gift may be used to further the mission objectives of The Welsh Society of Central Ohio as the Board of the Directors of The Welsh Society of Central Ohio may direct. The full legal name of WSCO is:

Other ways to contribute:
Our increased activities such as the annual Gymanfa Ganu in October, our St. David’s Day Celebration, the annual Bus Trip to places of Welsh culture, the Welsh Picnic, the Te Bach, the Columbus Welsh Singing Society, the Welsh Country Dancers, Welsh artists, and our outstanding newsletter, Dragon Tales, are all provided to you gratis or at our cost, and they are expensive endeavors. As with you, our costs have skyrocketed, and we are in need of additional funding so that we do not have to reduce our level of services and activities. Your generous donation today will help further our mission. Donating to The Welsh Society of Central Ohio is an investment in your community because your entire donation is used locally to benefit the Welsh and friends of Wales in Central Ohio.
The Welsh Society of Central Ohio has a long-standing record of careful stewardship of funds during its 60 years of service to the people of Central Ohio.
Honorariums and Memorials
Our heritage is dear to our hearts, and what better way to honor or memorialize someone than with a gift to The Welsh Society of Central Ohio? We receive honorariums for birthdays, marriages, every-day accomplishments, and even in honor of our ancestors’ accomplishments. Memorials are a great way to remember a loved one and their love for Wales and our Welsh community.
Sponsoring an event is a unique way to show your support for the preservation of your heritage and your family’s contribution to settling this nation and this area. For only $1,500 you can sponsor a Gymanfa in honor or in memory of a person or business of your choice. For $1,000 you can help underwrite the cost of talent, accompanists, and mailings for St. David’s Day. For $250.00 you can underwrite the cost of the Welsh Picnic or help with the cost of our yearly bus trip. Contributions of any size help keep us going and are tremendously appreciated. Your commitment will help with continuing our programs as they are or to expand them. Remember, your donations are tax-deductible.
Employer Matching
Ask your employer if they match charitable contributions. Many companies do! It’s a great way to double your donation through your company’s generous charitable giving program. To maximize contributions, organize a group of co-workers to enroll in the matching gifts program with you.
