The performers had so much fun that they sang the whole play all over again Friday night at the cast party – marching all through the school halls. They were really pumped up! Amy had an early birthday party for Graham on Saturday – he turned 10 on May 23. Sunday, Amy cooked a delicious Mother’s Day supper in honor of her mother-in-law Christine Littler and Charlotte. Charlotte said the trip was lovely. Every tree and flower bursts out in May in Marblehead and it is a beautiful time to visit the Boston area.
Patti and Jeff Jones were in Ireland for two weeks in late May. They spent most of their time in the Dublin area, touring castles and churches and walking by the sea and in the parks. On their way to one seaside town, they stopped at the Casino Marino, a house that appears from the outside to be only one room but is actually sixteen rooms, many with inlaid wood floors. They arrived there just after a tour bus with a group from Wales. They also toured Glendalough and Newgrange, a megalithic passage tomb that covers more than one acre and was built about 3200 BC. (that makes it more than 5,000 years old, pre-dating the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt by 500 years.) This was their third trip over the Atlantic – they visited London and Cardiff in 2004 and were back to London in 2006. During the Cardiff trip, their overnight accommodations were within sight of Millennium Stadium and they could hear the roaring rugby fans. Patti is one of the Welsh folk dancers and Jeff can occasionally be convinced to fill in at some performances.
WSCO has lost a board member who has been very active in the Society for many years – Life member Marilynn Miller moved to Cincinnati in the middle of June to be closer to her son Tom and his family. Besides four grandchildren, one of the “enticements” was that family members promised to do her laundry for her – can’t pass that up! (Your editor has seen pictures of Marilynn, Joan Bash and Helen Davis with their arms around each other and grins on their faces – makes a person wonder what kind of hi-jinks those three high-energy ladies got up to through the years while planning picnics and te bachs and volunteering for other WSCO activities.) Marilynn’s other son, Ron, lives in Virginia and writes books for children of middle-school age on scientific topics that catch his interest, like the elements and space, because he wishes there were such books when he was that age.
Our very own Stacy Evans will be going with the North American Welsh Choir to Patagonia and Buenos Aires, Argentina, October 14-27, 2008. http://www.nawr.com/corcymry/
The frequently-on-the-move Joe Sooby is back in his Dublin, Ohio, condo after breaking his leg during a condo-hunt in Michigan last year and a stint of recovery-time in a Victorian Village rental.
