       2008 --  Celebrate WSCO’s 60th Year!

WSCO Annual Family Picnic

Date:  Saturday, July 26, 2008; Time: 5 pm to 10 pm; Where: Blendon Woods MetroPark, Dogwood Shelter; 4265 E. Dublin-Granville Rd./Old St. Route 161 Westerville, Ohio.

Pull out your summertime recipes folks!  We expect some new dishes and, of course, the old favorites also.  How about a Welsh dish!

Bring your table service and beverages for your group along with one hot or cold dish to share.  Ice will be provided.

We plan to eat first so hot foods are hot and cold foods are cold.

We do not have access to the shelter before 5 pm so you do not need to be early.

Donna Boyce and the Welsh folk dancers will be there to demonstrate a few jigs and reels and to teach us a couple dances.  Its fun to try something different and we hope to have good audience participation.

Ann Gillard will direct the Columbus Welsh Singing Society and her cousin, John Davies, will accompany them on his keyboard.  They will sing some favorites and then we will all have a chance to sing a few favorites.  Bring your hymnals and we will have a few to loan.

There are a few items from the WSCO locker to be auctioned and our fine auctioneer from last year, Dr. Homer Williams, will be with us again.  Since we no longer cook Welsh tea cakes at the International Festival, there will be two Presto electric griddles up for auction, along with some items from the Welsh Store including a book, a love spoon and some CDs.

Roger Roberts has agreed to bring his Welsh flags again, and we have some Welsh tea towels in a variety of designs for display.

Please bring any of your own Welsh flags, tea towels, etc. to show off.

It’s time to mark your calendars and make your plans to join us for WSCO’s 5th Annual Bus Tour!

The tour date is August 31 but reservations need to be in by July 30 to facilitate planning. (reservations received after July 30 will incur a $5 processing fee.)

For 2008, this popular day trip will be on a Sunday to northwestern Ohio.  We will be attending the Venedocia evening gymanfa with stops at Welsh museums and a cemetery on the way there.

(Editor’s Note: the date of this gymanfa has been mis-stated in previous issues of Dragon Tales – the correct date is Sunday, August 31, 2008.  I apologize for any confusion.)

Trip details are on page 11.

Secure your seat on the bus by mailing your payment along with the registration form to arrive by July 30th.
