Celebrate WSCO’s 60th Year!
Saint David’s Day
Celebrations
February 29th at the Statehouse
Ken Evans
Our St. David's Day festivities start on Friday,
Feb 29 at the Ohio Statehouse in downtown Columbus, the southeast corner of
High and Broad streets. Meet at 11:30 am on the West Plaza or just inside
the west doors. We will raise the Welsh flag at noon. We had 32 people last
year.
Clyde Evans
will, again, invite other Ohio Representatives/Senators; personally invite
your own.
Members of the Columbus Welsh Singing Society will
be there to lead us in singing several Welsh hymns. We may move inside
(except for the flag raising) if the weather is bad.
Join us for a Welsh-oriented tour of the
Statehouse after the ceremony.
Luncheon at the Clintonville Woman’s Club
Mary Ellen Morgan
March 1, 2008
is St. David's Day and the day we'll celebrate it at the Clintonville
Woman's Club, 3951 North High Street, Columbus, with a luncheon to begin at
12:30.
Our well loved gymanfa organist James Hildreth
and his very special friend, Valorie Adams, an outstanding flutist,
are together known as Duo Celeste and will provide our Welsh-centered
entertainment after the luncheon. And, of course, we'll all sing a few
Welsh songs.
This year's seminars will be about Welsh love
spoons, presented by native Welshman and love spoon carver Chris Watkins,
and Ohio grave markers with a look at epitaphs in the Welsh language,
presented by Melanie Pratt, one of our Welsh folk dancers.
Chris Watkins is generously donating one of his
love spoons to be raffled with a few other items from our Welsh Store, and
will have other spoons available for sale!
(For more information about the seminars, the
presenters, and our special entertainers, see pages 6 and 7.)
For the luncheon, a choice of entrees is
available: either Steak Owain Glyndwr, which is chopped sirloin in a
rich beef-mushroom gravy; or Chicken Cymru, which is a baked breast
of chicken in a creamy raspberry-Dijon mustard sauce. Both entrees come
with a seasonal side dish of the chef's choice, salad, and dessert for $20
per person, with a special price of only $5 for those under 18. Please
indicate your entree choice on the
registration form.
