The CWSS has had a busy year so far. After several St. David's Day performances, the chorus participated in a Celtic Festival at the Gillie Senior Recreation Center on March 17. Following an Irish luncheon, the Gillie G-Clef chorus presented a concert of Irish songs and then the CWSS gave a concert of Welsh folk songs and hymns. The festival concluded with a Te Bach.
The delicious pastries for the Te Bach were provided by Sarah Heasley, granddaughter of WSCO members Jim and Ann Gillard. Sarah graduated from culinary school the day before the event. About 300 people attended the festival and the Welsh music was well received. It was a great day and will probably be an annual event at the Gillie Center.
The CWSS gave two performances on May 27th in Radnor, Ohio. Many compliments and nice comments were received after the program. Ann’s comment to the chorus, “Bringing Welsh music back to Radnor meant a lot to many people, and for me personally it meant more than you can imagine.”
The chorus welcomes a new member to the group - Clayton Russell Jones, known as Rusty, who was born and raised in Radnor, Ohio. He has lived in Columbus for many years. He has sung all of his life, has a great voice, and CWSS is very happy he has joined.
The CWSS invites anyone who is interested in learning to sing Welsh music to join them. They work hard, but also have a lot of fun. Practices are on Tuesdays, from 7 – 8:30 pm at the Worthington Methodist Church, 600 N. High St., Worthington, Ohio. For more information, contact Ann Gillard, chorus director, via WSCO at (614) 470-4999 or by email j-gillard[at]sbcglobal[dot]net.
Upcoming practices: July 3, Aug. 7, Sep. 4, Oct. 2 and 16, Nov. 6 and 20, and Dec. 4, 2007.
